Happy Veteran's Day

Happy Veterans Day everyone! Growing up in Fayetteville, NC by Ft. Bragg, I feel a special kinship to anything military. Since today is one of those special holidays, I thought I would share a little of my feelings about what Veteran's Day means to me:

My sister-in-law's first husband was killed in the Beirut bombing of 1983. Her second husband was a Marine. My cousin's husband is in the Navy. And last but certainly not least, Mako Man's dear friend from high school just retired from the Army. We love ya' fried chicken Sammy!

I remember the GI's coming into Baskin Robbins (my first job) and getting ice cream. I remember many of these same guys came to my rescue over the years by pushing my hunk-a-junk car off the road during one of its numerous breakdown fits; giving me roses, stuffed animals etc to brighten my day when I was down ; coming to my rescue if one of the customers started harrassing me for a phone number, date, etc. Most of the enlisted men were awesome young men who were fresh out of boot camp, away from home for the first time and just trying to fit into a new lifestyle. They became "big brothers" to me and I am grateful for the friendships made.

To all of you who have a vet as a friend or family member, thank them. Tell them how much you appreciate all they have done for our country. Soon we will be getting a new commander-in-chief, one with no military experience. Take a moment to pray for guidance, for our new President, our country, and most of all, for the men and woman fighting our fight overseas. God Bless You.
